History of Post 320

The Hopkins American Legion Post 320 was formed and chartered on February 11, 1929. The Post was chartered as John Wilbur Moore Post 320 of Hopkins by 15 World War I Veterans. The Post was named after deceased Veteran John Wilbur Moore.

The members met at a home on the east side of Hopkins before moving to the existing building in the mid 1950's. The building was previously owned by the Hopkins VFW. It was only a basement first before the Post added on the top floor. Most of that work was performed by Legion Members. The Post was remodeled in 1987 to it's current condition.

Post membership expanded to an all time high of 818 members in the late 1980's. WWI and WWII were very active in the Post and the Hopkins community.

The Post remains in the same location on 12th Ave South.
